Marian Stârcea, Artistic Director
Marian Stârcea was Born in Chisinau in 1959. He graduated the special music school „Eugen Coca” at the piano specialty. During the years 1977-1982, he continued his education at the State Institute of Arts (piano), and in 1988, he graduated the State Conservatory „G. Musicescu” (composition). Then he follows post-graduate studies at the „P.I.Ceaikovski” State Conservatory in Moscow at the composition specialty. Later (1992-1993) he attends the Recycling of Modern Music at the „Rubin” Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem, Israel.
Marian Stârcea has a wide artistic and administrative activity: since 1988 he is a lecturer at the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts (Chair of Music and Composition), he is Musical Director at the „Eugene Ionesco” Theater in Chișinău, Member of the Council of the Union Composers and Musicologists from Moldova, active member of the Artistic Council at the National State Radio, the Chair of the Municipal Commission for Youth in Art and Literature. He is currently an artistic director at the „S. Lunchevici” National Philharmonic.
Marian Stârcea is the author of an impressive number of creations for symphonic and chamber orchestras. He is also a recognized as a composer of music for different shows. His music belongs to 30 performances, staged by Moldovan, Romanian, and Japanese theaters. He has made numerous audio and 10 musical recordings collections with light music, collaborating with well-known performers from Moldova and Romania.
Marian Stârcea is the holder of some valuable awards, such as: Republican Youth Prize winner in Music, winner of national and union competitions; 1995- UNESCO Award in collaboration with the Union of Composers and Musicologists for Children's Song Cycle; 1999 - The Prize of the Moldovan Theatrical Union for the best music for the show („The Dream of a Summer night”, „Eugene Ionesco” Theater); 2000 - holder of the „Soros” Foundation of Excellence in Music; 2002 - designated by the press „Composer of the Year” 2003 - Best Orchestration Award (International Festival „Golden Star” Bucharest, Romania); 2003,2004 - The Best Song Award (International Festival „The Million Miracles” Bulgaria).
The composer's music was performed in Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Hungary, Sweden, France, Mongolia, Turkey, Israel, Japan, Malta.
For considerable merits in the development of musical art in 1999, the composer Marian Stârcea was awarded the Honorary Master in Art and in 2011, the Artist of the People.
